Women's Business Network
The Chamber SWLA kicked off its Women's Business Network with a luncheon in April 2010. Over 100 women attended the premiere event and have continued their support of the program bringing friends and co-workers to the informal luncheons since.
"This group was formulated to address the issues and benefits of being a woman in business in Southwest Louisiana. Women often have to juggle their jobs, homes and families, and yet are becoming entrepreneurs, working in previously male-oriented industries and taking over leadership positions across all industry sectors. Our goal with the Women's Business Network is to provide educational, networking and mentoring resources to women in business across the five parish region of Southwest Louisiana,” said Amanda White, Communications Director, The Chamber SWLA
The Women's Business Network is a non-membership based group spanning all industries and communities, sharing common interests and goals. At each meeting, a member of the group shares information about their industry or specialty and then we are treated to a speaker on a topic decided by the group as a whole.
"It is a very democratic process. The group decided when they wanted to meet, how often and what they wanted to cover during our time together. Utilizing surveys and the feedback from our Advisory Council, we have been able to provide great programs on effective communication, how we see ourselves and others, and how to succeed in today's business. It is funny. We didn't know what to expect when this all started, nor did we expect such a great response! At each meeting, we give everyone the opportunity to say who they are and what they do. What really struck all of us was how much we connected during that time. We shared triumphs and congratulations. This is a group that enjoys spending time together and learning together,” continued White.
